Mini Png: Individuality in Clothing

Camila C. | February 13, 2021

Depop's top seller, Mini Png, is all about bringing individuality in clothing. Check out the interview below about Mini Png's upcoming projects, the process that goes into the clothing, and repurposed clothing.

How will you continue to grow your platform?

By continuing to be myself! I want to be as transparent as possible with the community I've built.

Was there ever a time you wanted to give up on your platform? How did you overcome this?

There was a time in the very beginning where I actually did stop. But it was because I felt like something was missing. I kept trying to conform to what was trendy and on-brand, and that was never what I was about. I did a lot of self-reflecting and just overall time to myself to think about what I really wanted my message to be. I soon found myself, rebranded and now I'm here! What are some projects you have coming up? I’m going to be creating rugs and plushes to add to my shop as well! I’m also going to be doing a lot of vending this summer.

What is the process that goes into your clothing?

Sourcing the product - This can be online or in-person, but I mostly do inperson sourcing. This usually takes me all week. Creating a plan- Looking at what I've sourced, so I can get a visual of what pieces I'll be reconstructing. Reconstruction process- Taking apart different fabrics to repurpose them onto a separate piece. - Putting together the piece. (Sewing machine, hand sewing, painting on the artwork, etc,) Photography/Selling process- Taking photos of the pieces and posting them with descriptions onto my website. What is some advice you would give to another creative who wants to fashion as a creative outlet? Have fun with it! A Lot of people overthink and try so hard to do things a certain way that they end up really forgetting why they started in the first place. It's a process, but you should never try and conform to fit in. Just do what makes you happy and people will appreciate that!

What is some advice you’d give to another creative who wants to start selling ethically sourced clothing?

It might seem difficult at first but stick with it. Get involved with others who are also ethically sourcing clothing! Ask questions, and be a part of the community! We are really one big team.

What is your ultimate goal?

My ultimate goal is definitely to keep creating clothing that encourages individuality.

What inspired you to repurpose clothing? Mainly my love for fashion is what inspired me to repurpose. I always had clothing ideas for pieces I wanted but I could never find exactly what I was looking for so I started to create the pieces myself! What is the best part about the platform and community you created? Watching them express themselves in a different way! It warms my heart to see how each unique piece suits its new owner! I’ve gotten messages that tell me how they feel like they can be more outgoing in the piece, or how it helps them with something they may mentally be battling! That's what my brand is about!
