Chloe Magleby brought Public Parts' fourth runway show, "PRETTY AND SAD," to New York Fashion Week at the Caelum Gallery on September 11, 2026. As the visionary designer behind Public Parts’ SS27 runway show, Chloe is much more than a designer; she is a storyteller using secondhand, thrifted, and dead stock materials to craft a narrative.
“PRETTY AND SAD” draws from opposing feelings and materials: beauty and damage, softness and sensuality, romantic and intricate details.
“It’s the juxtaposition between two contradicting things,” Magleby said. “That’s the pretty and sad.”

For Magleby, who started her design journey in Utah, the collection is about finding meaning in what has been discarded, overlooked or imperfect.
"I've been doing this for [almost] three years," Chloe shares, her excitement and growth evident in her voice. The evolution from her initial shows to the grand stage of New York Fashion Week is nothing short of extraordinary. "The difference between this show and my first show is crazy," she states, acknowledging the layers of progress and innovation she has embraced.

Over the past four years, Public Parts has developed a recognizable approach centered on reclaimed materials and clothes that feel personal rather than polished into anonymity. This Spring/Summer 27 runway presentation marked Magleby’s biggest production this year. Notably walking the runway were internet personality Summer McKeen, and Love Island Alumni, Kenzie Annis and Andreina Santos.
“This one has so many more moving parts and so many more people,” she said. “Everything, production level, is higher. Obviously, I’ve grown so much as a designer.”
Now, standing at her own presentation, she said even saying the words out loud still felt unreal.
“It’s really insane to even say those words to me,” Magleby said. “I can’t believe that I’m having a runway show at this level during New York Fashion Week.”
She called it “every girl’s dream,” while emphasizing that the accomplishment belongs not only to her but also to the wider Public Parts team that helped bring the show together.
“The fact that we’re, as a brand, able to put this on is amazing and insane, and I’m honored,” she said.
The inspiration behind her latest collection with Public Parts is deeply personal. Rooted in the wisdom of her grandmother, Chloe explores the notion that angels are not mystical entities, but rather ordinary people who touch our lives.

“My grandmother used to always say that angels weren’t these, like, mystical creatures that we thought they were,” Magleby explains, drawing inspiration from the everyday heroes who enrich our existence. “They were anyone who answered your prayers.”
The definition makes room for the people in everyday life: a partner, a close friend, a family member or even a stranger whose kindness arrives at the right moment.
“What I took from that is everyone’s an angel,” she said. “Regular, everyday people are angels.”
This juxtaposition of examining the pretty and the sad is evidently infused in her work with emotional depth and complexity, through the white and black contrast throughout the show.

Using fabrics and garments that already have a past before they become part of a Public Parts design, the designs do not attempt to erase the fabrics’ origins. Instead, Magleby reworks them into something new, allowing age, texture and imperfection to become part of the final statement.
Beyond the glittering facade of fashion, Chloe remains grounded in the reality of her craft. While her collections may exude glamour, the process itself is far from it.
“The fashion industry and this today is so, so glamorous,” she said. “However, creating the collection is not. It’s me at 2 a.m. cutting on the dirty floor,” she said. “It’s me dyeing doilies black in my kitchen sink.”
This journey, marked by late nights and relentless effort, is one Chloe embraces wholeheartedly.
“It’s a lot of ugly moments that make all these beautiful clothes, and a lot of really, really hard work,” Magleby said.
Among the collection’s lineup, Magleby immediately named one look as her favorite as the first black ensemble to appear on the runway. It is playful, dramatic and intentionally provocative that captures the confidence behind Public Parts’ designs.
“It has a bubble butt, and it has half of a bra,” Magleby said. “It is so gorgeous. It is my favorite look, just ’cause I think it’s hot.”
Her attachment to the look was not necessarily rooted in a complex personal backstory, but in how a garment looks and feels in motion.
That directness reflects the spirit of the collection. “Pretty and Sad” does not ask viewers to choose between emotional depth and visual pleasure. It makes room for both, proving how clothes can be beautiful and damaged, tender and daring, serious in their origin while still designed to create a striking runway moment.
