Tigres Edge Real Salt Lake in Penalty Shootout After 1-1 League Cup Draw

Real Salt Lake battled Tigres UANL to a 1-1 draw in its League Cup opener before falling 6-5 in a penalty shootout on Wednesday night. Tigres struck first through Juan Brunetta before Pablo Ruiz equalized in the first half, scoring his first goal since 2023 to level the match.
With neither side able to find a winner in regulation, the match was decided in penalties. Zach Booth's missed attempt gave Tigres the advantage before Alan Franco converted the decisive spot kick to secure the extra point in the shootout victory.
